David Hockney (British b.1938) One Night, etching from the Illustrations for Fourteen Poems from C.P. Cavafy 1966, measurements 34.5 x 32 cm (PL), frame 61 x 47 cm

Provenance: private local collection, purchased from the Goldmark gallery

Hockney found inspiration as a teenager in the writings of Greek-Egyptian poet Constantine Cavafy (1863-1933) and created a suite of thirteen very intimate etchings reflecting Cavafy's powerful reflections on homosexual desire.

Provenance:

The etching is a work on paper, framed under glazing, not examined external to the frame. The paper appears of good condition, no obvious signs of rips, folds or creasing. There are a few isolated spots of foxing including to the knee of the standing figure on the right. It has full margins and a visible platemark. The frame has general wear and tear.
