Footnote:

Charles Dixon was just 16 when he first exhibited at the RA and was elected RI (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours) in 1900. He was an illustrator for periodicals, including The Graphic. A keen yachtsman he was a marine artist, specialising in shipping subjects and his most popular depict busy, contemporaneous Thames river scenes, such as this very large example.

Condition Report

The painting is a watercolour, framed under glazing- not examined external to the frame. The sheet appears in good general condition, no obvious signs of any rips, tears or creasing. There are a couple of minor, sparsly distributed spots of discolouration in the background but there does not appear to be any overt evidence for deterioration. There is some general ageing (yellowing) of the paper. The paint condition appears well preserved and colours good, the paint surface appears stable. It is signed Charles Dixon 1917 bottom left.

Frame - later and chipped, including 2 corners and some edges, including a 4cm chip on the top left edge of the front.
