A Chinese embroidered silk shawl, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century
Possibly a piano shawl, the pale cream silk finely worked in coloured threads with a scene of a peacock amid flowering plants accompanied by other birds and butterflies in flight, all surrounded by scattered flowers and foliage, the hem edged with a broad knotted fringe.
