A Second Boer War pair of medals named to Shoeing Smith David Briggs, Royal Artillery
comprising KSA (King's South Africa) medal with two bars awarded to "84445 SHG: - STH D. BRIGGS, POM POM SEC: R.A", with 'South Africa 1901' and '1902 clasps' together with a QSA (Queen's South Africa) medal with six bars awarded to "84445 SHG: STH D. BRIGGS, R.H.A', with 'Belfast'; 'Diamond Hill', 'Johannesburg, 'Driefontein', 'Paardeberg' and 'Relief of Kimberley' clasps

Sold together with a quantity of photocopied paperwork including Military History sheet, Attestation forms and Statement of Services. Briggs was born in Dublin and joined the Royal Artillery in Liverpool on 16th April 1891. Aged 18 years 2 months on sign-up, his original trade was a chandler. He first saw service in India from 8th December 1893 - 29th December 1898 and was then recalled for service in South Africa from 24th October 1899 - 6th June 1902.

Condition Report

QSA Medal - small knock to the edge of the medal, just above the numbering '84'. There is a small brown spot of discolouration on the rear of one of the lowest clasp bar and a couple of surface scratches on the bar above it. Some slight yellow tarnishing on the medal, on either side of the suspension. There is some amber-coloured surface residue in small areas on the medal's obverse side, possibly the remnants of old varnish or lacquer. Otherwise good.


KSA medal - The medal ribbon is torn and with wear. There is a couple of minute knocks to the edge of the rim of the medal. Likewise to the other medal, the obverse has the same coloured reside on the surface. There is one very small knock to the mount on the suspension.
