muzzle-loading, the lockplate engraved 'BREWSTER STRATTON', further decorated with a dog chasing a pheasant and foliate scrolls and engraving to both hammers, with a ramrod, barrel length 29", overall length 117cm
Notes: Census records show that the Brewsters were a multi-generational family of gunsmiths. James Brewster Senior was born in 1789 in Long Stratton St. Mary Norfolk. Three subsequent generations of the same family entered the same profession comprising James Brewster (b.1810), James Banham Brewster (b.1838) and James Edward Brewster (b.1867).
