19th century British Indian military survey map

A Plan of the Fort and Cantonment of Belgaum, surveyed November 1859 by Captain J J Pollexfen V A Q M 1/s Dept, scale of 200 yards to an inch, pen and ink on canvas sheet, signed in ink and dated 17th April 1861, 69.5 x 91cm (SH)

Notes: Pollexfen produced the map for the Quarter-Master General of Bombay General Robert Phayre (1820-1897). Belgaum had a strategically important location and was a significant garrison town.

Footnote: The map was acquired by the vendors grandfather while serving in the British army in India.
