PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY - D-Day and Normandy landings, with Allied incursions into France from June - August 1944. Approximately 126 black and white photographs by P.N.A, Keystone, War Office and other similar agencies, around 70% circa 1944, with several later re-issues in commemoration of anniversaries, largest 25.5cm x 20cm, plus 8 wirephotos


Subject matter includes:

  • General Montgomery addressing Pioneers in Douvres
  • Grave of a German soldier near Rauray
  • Destroyed German transports at the River Seine
  • Allied supplies being unloaded on Normandy Beachhead
  • Nazi prisoners on Normandy beaches awaiting deportation
  • The damage to Caen, photographed immediately after its Allied occupation
  • General Sir Richard Gale, who as a Major-General commanding the 6th Airborne Division landed by glider at the Pegasus Bridge in the early hours of D-Day (June 6th 1969)
  • 'Mad Colonel' Andreas Maria Karl von Aulock surrendering from the fort at St. Malo
