The plain polished case signed Alex'r Smart, maker, No.101, the 2 inch white enamel dial with black Roman chapter, the back with locking sliding plate revealing the winding and setting holes, the eight day movement with platform escapement, with signed and numbered key.

Footnote:

Alexander Smart is recorded as a London clockmaker, fl.1828-1851. The inside back of this clock is also inscribed for the maker with the address at No.70 South Audley Street. This timepiece with its sliding back plate which locks into place to cover the winding and setting holes appears to have been designed specifically for anti-tampering.

  • Case: Case good (no key for back plate)

  • Dial: Fine hairlines between 8 and 10

  • Movement: Not running but intact - mainspring and drive chain need re-winding.
