Robert Webster (Shrewsbury, 1755-1832). Admitted a Burgess of Shrewsbury on the 17th of May 1796. Married Martha Baddeley, daughter of John Baddeley, clockmaker of Tong and Albrighton, in 1766. He established a large clockmaking business in Mardol in 1783 and made several turret clocks, namely for Millington’s Hospital and Saint Alkmund’s church. He is also recorded as making 30-hour longcase clock movements. Interestingly, he gifted three spinning wheels to Queen Caroline, two of which he designed.
