A Chinese blue and white yenyen vase, 19th century
Decorated with a prunus pattern on 'cracked ice' ground, between panelled borders and additionally decorated with shou symbols.
46cm high
By repute, purchased from a dispersal sale at Badger Hall in the 1940s.
Footnote:Badger Hall in Shropshire was re-built and extended in the 18th century, going on to house a fine collection of paintings, furniture and works of art. Its last residents, the Capel Cures', dynasty ended in 1937 and the house was eventually sold to a paper company and remained unoccupied until its eventual demolition in 1953. Between 1945 and 1952 there were at least two dispersal sales held, the first offering some 1,500 lots of antiques and works of art. It is likely that the present lot originates from that auction.
