Lot 41

A set of eleven Belleek 'Greek' dessert plates, 2nd period, circa 1891-1926

A set of eleven Irish Belleek 'Greek' dessert plates, Second Period, circa 1891-1926, of circular form with pierced detail to the rim, the border moulded with a band of anthemion enriched in gilt and green, printed mark in black, some pieces numbered '28', 30cm diameter

The 'Greek' shape is somewhat scarce but typically found with First Period markings, so these plates were possibly produced early in the Second Period date range.

Sold for £600

Condition Report

Two plates have a minute stress/firing crack to the reverse edge of one pierced section each, approximately 2mm wide. One of these plates also has an errant line of gilding to the reverse.
A third plate has a hairline to the rim, 5mm long.

No other damages or repairs are noted. All plates ring nicely when tapped. The gilding remains generally in good order with only a few very minor spots and patches of rubbing to a couple of the plates. There are only very light signs of use in the form of surface scratches visible to the centre of the plates when held in a particular light.
