A fine Chinese carved hongmu rosewood cabinet, Qing Dynasty, 19th century
The triple-arched pierced cresting finely carved with confronting dragons chasing a flaming pearl amid clouds and flanked by phoenix birds, the upper section of open form with a series of shelves having supports carved with dragons and openwork galleries carved with fruiting vines, the whole back carved with fruiting vines with bats above rocks, the lower section with twin arch-panelled doors carved in relief with dragons chasing flaming pearls opening to a single three-quarter shelf, the sides carved in relief with lotus flowers and foliage, raised on claw-and-ball feet with carved openwork aprons between, 116cm wide x 37cm deep x 223cm high.

Condition Report

The top left side panel has a small split. There is a small amount of shrinkage to the top section side panels on both sides. Visisble shrinkage to the sections of the openwork back in the top section. The base section appears sound front and sides while the back boards are warped. Interior of the base appears sound with some minor shrinkage. Overall good with only minor signs of age and use.
