George Armfield (1808-1893) Terrier with her puppies signed lower right, dated 1868 oil on canvas (round) 56 cm x 56 cm Notes: George Armfield was a prolific painter of animals and his best period is often considered to be between 1840 and 1869. He regularly exhibited at the RA and was patronised by many of the great houses of England and Wales. From 1870 his eyesight started to fail although he did continue to paint to some extent with the assistance of an eye glass held close to the canvas surface.
