This fountain comes with a letter from the cousin of the previous owner's of the residence in which this fountain was present for many decades. The typewritten note, included with the letter and later dated '1960 or earlier?' was the reason for this communication, was found amongst the effects of the previous owner. It mentions this fountain..'Nothing of any outstanding value except for the marble group in the pool. This, which is exquisite, came from Wolseley Hall, Staffordshire. Reputedly sculptured by Sir Christopher Wren but actually, I think, by his associate Hawkyard. Cost £600. Say today's value 750. Best to obtain an offer for it from Crowther of Isleworth before sale.'
