Albert Irvin (1922-2015) was a British expressionist artist from the East End of London. Irvin studied at the Northampton School of Art and was influenced by Matisse and St. Ives artists such as Terry Frost. In 1975 he won the Arts Council Award and in 1983 the Gulbenkian Award as a printmaker. His paintings are predominantly abstract characterised by loaded, gestural brushstrokes. In 2013 he was awarded an OBE for services to Visual Arts.
