Bernard Banks was a Lancashire artist. Banks served in Burma during World War Two, being captured by the Japanese and spend three and a half years as a Prisoner of War. He continued to draw when he could, creating portraits of his fellow prisoners and he helped artist Ronald Searle (1920-2011) illustrate the camp magazine. Banks’ paintings were primarily influenced by his love of the land and sea.

Condition Report

The paintings are all on canvas, unframed. They have been stored in a gallery setting and wrapped in plastic covering prior to sale. All of the paintings are in generally good and clean condition. The larger painting showing sheep on a country lane with trees down the right side has some surface abrasion to the upper left.

Bidding indicates acceptance of the condition of the lot.  All lots are sold subject to general wear and tear commensurate with age and handling over time and only obvious faults will be mentioned after a visual inspection.
