A good Victorian mahogany breakfront gentleman's chest-cum-press

A Victorian mahogany, breakfront, gentleman's chest-cum-press, with flame figured panels and turned handles, the shaped cornice above a well-figured frieze, over a pair of panelled doors, enclosing three shelves, flanked on each side by a panelled door, enclosing three shelves, the base with a central chest of two short and two long, graduated, cockbeaded drawers, flanked on each side by a cupboard with one shelf, raised on a plinth, some damage, approximately 255cm wide x 62cm deep x 216cm high

Condition Report

Generaly ok and the front has no patches or cracks etc. The colour and figuring are nice and it looks good from the front. There is some damage, including:-

Cornice - lacking two 1cm sections of veneer on right side of the return. Long slim chip on veneer on right edge of breakfront on the frieze.

Upper section - some chips on veneer bottom left of wall-side at the bottom and a section nearer the front re-stuck, about 10cm x 10cm. Right side with a 40cm vertical hairline crack on the right return and lacking 2cm x 1cm section of the top corner of the wall-side. Lacking several curved base mouldings of the frieze. The front is ok. Later locks. Interior painted.

Base - right side return lacking 16cm x 1.5cm section of wall-side and base moulding chipped on the corner. Doors and one drawer with later locks. One short drawer lacking one vertical cockbead. The other short drawer with a chipped section - now well patinated. Middle drawer lacking three sections of cockbead - 5.5cm, 3.5cm and 20cm. Bottom drawer with 13cm section of cockbead on the upper edge chamfered, but well patinated.
