Hermann Geyer, German General. Scarce signed booklet.

Hermann Geyer (1882-1946) German General and Knight's Cross winner.

A scarce printed booklet entitled Das IX. Korps im Oftfeldzug vom 22. Juni - 31 Dezember 1941 (The IX Corps in the Eastern Campaign from 22nd June - 31st December 1941). Published in 1942 for private circulation, signed by Geyer to the title page and dated 24th December 1942. 162 pages.
Some annotations and underlinings in (indelible?) red and black pencil to the text throughout.

Notes: General Geyer commanded IX Army Corps under the 4th Army during Operation Barbarossa and the invasion of the Soviet Union. He retired in 1943 and committed suicide in April, 1946. According to Hans Speidel's Aus unserer Zeit, Geyer was devastated by the defeat of Germany in World War II and its disastrous consequences. He blamed himself partly for this development because he thought he hadn't acted decisively enough for the Widerstand (apparently against Hitler). Tormented by guilt, he committed suicide by drowning in the Wildsee, a lake located a few kilometres southwest of his house in Bad Wildbad im Schwarzwald.
