Private John Dyson Allison was born in Halifax, Yorkshire, in 1890 and attested in April 1912. He served with the West Riding Regiment from 5th August 1914 (in France with No. 3 Entrenching Battalion from 30th June 1915 - 17th November 1915). He later transferred to the 1st/4th York and Lancaster Regiment just four days before being killed in action in the Somme region on the 7th September 1916. He is buried at Lonsdale Cemetery, France.
