The tapestry shows Constantine (280 - 337 AD) at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge on the Tiber in AD 312 where he defeated the Emperor Maxentius. Before the battle, Constantine had a dream showing a cross in the sky (Chi-Rho) and a voice crying 'in hoc signo vinces'
