Notes: Joseph Birbeck Junior was born in Coalport, Shropshire to a family of talented porcelain artists and decorators. He trained at the Coalport factory, where he was at one time foreman of a painting shop and his notable work includes landscape painting after Turner. He joined Copeland in 1881 before working at Brown Westhead & Moore and latterly Royal Doulton from 1900 - 1926.
