The Peony Pavilion Collection: Chinese Tea Ceramics for Japan, Christie's London, 12 June 1989, lot 294 (part)

Footnote:

The Peony Pavilion Collection, sold by Christie's at their King Street rooms, London, in 1989, was a then unprecedented event, the auction comprising a unique private collection which had been compiled by the same family through six generations. The earliest acquisition recorded in the collection had been made in 1781, and it had followed a specific theme - Chinese porcelain made for the Japanese market to be used in the tea ceremony. The dishes in the present lot were part of a set of five in their original wood box or Tomabako. Purchased by a private English collector from that auction in 1989, then subsequently by Robert McPherson in the early 2000s before being purchased by the present vendor in 2018. Accompanying the dishes in this lot is a copy of the original Christie's catalogue with the dishes illustrated on page 66.

Sold for £550
