Major-General Neil McMicking, C.B, C.B.E., D.S.O., M.C (1894 - 1963)
A good and comprehensive album documenting his career from the First World War to the Second World War and his death in 1963.

The album includes grant certificates of awards for D.S.O. C.B., C.B.E and O.B.E, together with Royal Company of Archer’s commission, Russian Order to St. Anne with Swords 2nd Class paperwork (including a letter to the War Office about wearing this order in uniform) and numerous mentioned in dispatches certificates (four from WW1, one for Palestine 1938-9 and another for WW2). Other documentation includes an invite to Buckingham Palace for the 1953 Coronation and Coronation Medal certificate, a booklet entitled ‘Statues of the Distinguished Service Order’ and a letter regarding his appointment as Deputy Lieutenant for Perth, a copy of the Orders of Dress for the Lieutenancy.

Photographs comprise numerous good studio portraits of McMicking at various stages – including as a young boy, a young man as a soldier in the First World War (whilst still studying at Eton), and later stages of his military career and a pencil portrait sketch. Likewise, there are four photographs of fellow Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) soldier Major-General Victor Fortune, one signed and dated 1925, another 1914 (Victor Fortune was the highest-ranking POW captured in 1940 and commanded the 51st Infantry Division).

Elsewhere there is a good large-format photograph of McMicking with Bishop and Chaplain General John Taylor Smith and two other men, 36.5cm x 28cm and several other inter-war photographs of troops on parade review and regimental sports teams, a group photograph of the Queen Mother who was Colonel-in-Chief of the Black Watch, sizes approximately 15cm x 21cm and 20cm x 25.5cm

Album size 43cm x 33cm, containing around 50 photographs and numerous documents, the album in a poor and disbound condition but interior contents mainly in good condition with the exception of a few smaller photographs toward the rear.

Sold for £1,150
