John Turner later transferred to be a Corporal in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps [S.E.23535] His medal roll for the 1914-15 Star gives the code of 4.A, denoting service in the theatre of British East Africa, German East Africa, Rhodesia, Nyasaland and Uganda. He was therefore possibly a member of the 5th (Frontiersmen) Service Battalion.
