Footnote:Richard Smith (Contemporary British) was born in Luton, Bedfordshire and studied illustration at Luton School of Art. He began his career as a medical artist at the John Radcliffe Teaching Hospital in Oxford before becoming a full time wildlife artist in 1978. He is well known for his depictions of fish and birds in particular. His paintings and sculptures have been widely exhibited internationally and have entered many prestigious collections such as a commission for a fish painting by the Sultan of Oman. He creates his work from studies from life out in the field and by taxidermy.
