Lot 10

Two 18th century delft dry drugs jars

Two large 18th century delft dry drug jars with copper covers, decorated in blue with inscriptions ‘Straas Burger’ and ‘B Rapee’ reserved against foliate grounds, painted blue PMV marks for Pieter Van Marksveld De Grieksche, 34cm high

Sold for £1,600

Condition Report

The 'Straasburger' tobacco jar is 29.6cm high without the cover, the 'B.Rapee' jar is 30cm high excluding the cover. Neither tobacco jar has any serious damages or signs of invisible restorations. The main comment to make is that the 'Straasburger' jar has some typically nibbling and fritting around the rim, with one small section missing (which is invisible when the cover is on). There is also the typically pitting to the bodies which is typical of this delftware. Please see additional images.
